Community Conversations: Housing
On Monday, 9/11, Plan Yarmouth held a Community Conversation on Housing. If you missed the event, you can review the video or check out the slide presentation here.
Below, you can participate in an online version of the activities we did as a group at the event. You’ll answer questions and brainstorm ideas about what kind of housing is needed in Yarmouth, where it should be, how new housing will impact other aspects of the town, and what strategies the town can use to encourage this new housing.
These activities will be available through mid-October.
1. Yarmouth’s housing mix
The chart shows what type of housing currently exists in Yarmouth.
Yarmouth has a market for around 30 rental units and 120-250 for sale units in the next 5 years. The housing affordability gap shows a demand for 835 ownership units at lower price points and 443 rental units at lower price points.
What type of new housing should be built in Yarmouth over the next 5 years?
Your answers will be aggregated in the slide below.
2. Housing Location
Where in Yarmouth should this new housing be built over the next 5 years?
Explore the map and then click on “new feature” to add a location. Place the blue house where you think housing should be built, add a description if you want, and click “Create” to save. You can add as many locations as you’d like.

3. Housing Connections

Your answers will be aggregated in the slide below.
4. Housing Strategies
What actions can the Town of Yarmouth take to encourage this new housing?
For example, offer incentives to developers, provide direct assistance to renters, require a certain percentage of affordable housing in all developments...
